In 2006, pediatric Occupational Therapist Kate Onos-Gilbert launched Tulips of the Valley, British Columbia’s first tulip festival that takes place on fields planted by Onos Greenhouses, the families sister business. Starting on Seabird Island in Agassiz, the festival grew rapidly, drawing over 30,000 attendees by 2015. In 2016, it moved to Chilliwack, becoming the Chilliwack Tulip Festival in 2017. Kate and her family, now including three children, continued to expand their vision, expanding their agritourism business. In May 2023, the family acquired a picturesque farm in Western Agassiz, with majestic Mt Cheam in the background. Under Kate’s leadership, the festival transformed from a flower field into a dynamic experience featuring a Dutch windmill, a 1950s Morris convertible, raised platforms, swing sets, lawn games, a festival store, and food trucks, making it a delightful family-friendly attraction each Spring.
